We are now experiencing a dangerously low amount of new social media content. So, I’ll do my part to help replenish the supply, and share some details of our exciting day.
We typically enjoy fresh fruit in the morning. Today was different. Eggs over easy and nicely browned sausages somehow feel like they’ll help strengthen our immune system. As does copious sleep, so we actually enjoyed this breakfast for lunch. We will be employing both of these tactics again tomorrow.
We attempted to watch a movie on Amazon – a touching generational love story. We found that the “generational” part is where the pregnant wife gets hit by a bus, and the husband shoots himself in his psychiatrist’s office, but the baby daughter lives on. This whole premise brought Austin to tears and made for a ridiculously sad break in our day.
I tried everything to console Austin, finally resorting to asking whether he’d like a movie with some occasional gratuitous nudity. This got his attention, and got my wife’s attention too, pretty quickly. We debated whether an 8-year-old should be interested in boobs. My feeling is thats pretty healthy and harmless, but my wife wasn’t buying it. In any event, she told me go ahead and play the movie as long as it isn’t violent, and I said don’t worry – I have the perfect movie.
So, Conan the Barbarian it was. Austin and I laughed and rewound and played the bit a few times where Arnold is asked “what is the best part of life?” and he says “Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of the women!” Danica Cousens tired of this and insisted we let the movie play, but we at least agreed that it was a good learning opportunity for Austin to learn the definition of “lament.”
We sampled three different flavors of potato chips today which was exciting. I prefer the salt ‘n’ pepper variety as they’re spicy enough to keep child hands out of the bag.
I spent time grocery shopping on my mobile phone from the sofa. Zero luck finding any delivery windows from anyone, which is just as well since I stocked up yesterday in my hazmat suit. I did a bit more reading around sanitization of groceries, and found that our process of wiping everything down before it comes into the kitchen is legit. But I see suggestions of washing vegetables in hot, soapy water and this is a bit of a turnoff. Another suggestion to leave groceries outside for 3 days seems equally unreasonable, but we do have an attached garage so perhaps that’s an option. Hmmmm.
So, my online grocery shopping urge was finally satisfied with an order for 50 Island Creek Oysters plus cocktail sauce, arriving on Tuesday from Boston. If you’ve not had Island Creek oysters, they’re wonderful – good brine, crisp, creamy finish. The price was reasonable and we go crazy for oysters and what the hell do you expect us to stop living our lives?
Nap time. I snoozed for a good couple of hours. Opened the window next to me, let the cool rainy breeze come in, bade my family farewell and dozed off.
I woke up, decided to crack a beer and catch up on social media while Donna makes dinner. We’re eating at a “reasonable hour” today at her direction because after all, we’re not turning into animals.
Well, when I found nary a single new Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Drudge Report update, this content drought issue hit me right in the face, and I set about doing my part here and now to combat it.
Ok…off to dinner before my wife smacks me in the face. Happy Saturday.
